Innovation in Mind 2009 – the startup

In the European Union Year of Innovation 2009, Lund University, Region Skåne and partners arranged INNOVATION IN MIND for the first time. An astonishing 700 took the opportunity to share the thoughts, the knowledge and the perspectives of some of the world´s leading innovators and experts on innovation.

Here´s a selection of the speakers at Innovation in Mind 2009.

Clay ShirkyClay Shirky: A digital guru that writes, teaches and talks about the social and economic effects of the web, and how emerging technologies will transform our ability to gather and cooperate and actually change the way our society works. Author of the masterpiece "Here Comes Everybody - The power of organizing without organizations".

Sahar HashemiSahar Hashemi: Co-founder of Coffee Republic, a coffee bar chain that is now one of the most recognised high street brands. Best-selling author and a laywer from the start, she is an excellent example of someone who stopped "thinking about it" and "did it".

Curtis CarlsonCurtis Carlson: A recognized expert on the process of innovation. Currently President and CEO at SRI International (Stanford Research Institute), but also an accomplished violinist who played professionally at the age of 15.

Nikolaus FrankeNikolaus Franke: Much awarded and world-famous researcher from Vienna within the area of innovation and enterpreneurship. His work on the innovativeness of users is regarded as ground-breaking and given much attention lately.

Henry ChesbroughHenry Chesbrough: Professor at Berkley Haas Business School who coined the word Open innovation and proposes this as a new paradigm for organizing and managing Research & Development. He spent ten years in Silicon Valley and has truly innovated the discipline of innovation.


Susanna BillSusanna Bill: Former Head of Innovation at Sony Ericsson. She is the founder of Sustenance, an innovation company the helps organizations creating long term innovation capabilities and value growth. With her sparkling visionary mind she is a true inspiration for any organization. “Create growth through innovation or User experience is the key”


Björn O NilssonBjörn O Nilsson: Professor Björn O. Nilsson serves as President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) 2008–2014 and he has a doctorate degree in biochemistry from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, where he today holds an adjunct position. Prof. Nilsson has served in a number of management roles in the Swedish biotechnology industry. He is also a member of a number of governmental and non- governmental committees in areas such as science, education and innovation.


Bengt-Åke LundvallBengt-Åke Lundvall: Ambassador for the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, expert on "the learning economy" and professor at Aalborg University.

Kristofer LundströmKristofer Lundström: Extremely popular cultural journalist and anchorman at Swedish National Television (SVT). Will serve as our moderator and guide throughout the conference.


Charles EdqvistCharles Edqvist: Holder of the Ruben Rausing Chair in Innovation at Lund University and Director for CIRCLE (Centre for Innovation Research and Competence in the Learning Economy). Author of several books on innovation policy and systems.


Lena GustafssonLena Gustafsson: Has comprehensive knowledge about inventions and innovations as ways to promote science and development. Deputy Director General at Vinnova, the Swedish Agency for Innovation and professor in biotechnology.


Jean David MaloJean David Malo: Representative from The European Commission. Joined Dg Research of the European Commission in 2000 and was involved in the preparation of the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union. Today Head of a Unit responsible for facilitating regional development through research and innovation through the « Regions of Knowledge » and « Regional Potential for Convergence Regions » schemes. And for improvement of access to debt financing in synergy with the European, Investment Bank.


Søren BechSøren Bech: Adjunct Professor, Head of Research at Bang & Olufsen, a company known for its innovative work. B&O also works in close relationship with researchers at Aarhus University to develop new and ground-breaking products.


Jerker MoodyssonJerker Moodysson: PhD in Social and Economic Geography. Assistant Professor in Innovation Studies at CIRCLE (Centre for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy). Currently working on a European collaborative research project (EUROCORES) named “Constructing Regional Advantage: Towards State-of-the-Art Regional Innovation System Policies in Europe?” with partners from eight European universities.


Jacob Juul GadeJacob Juul Gade: Jacob Juul Gade is Executive Advisor at the Øresund University and Øresund Science Region. The Øresund Science Region was awarded the EU Region Star Award 2008 in the category ”Supporting Clusters and Business Networks”. The Øresund Science Region is a strong driving force in creating user driven and science based innovation in the Øresund Region. Jacob Juul Gade has within the Øresund Science Region been responsible for the development of a strong portofolio of environmental and energy related innovation projects during the past 7 years.

Per ErikssonPer Eriksson: Leading actor in Swedish innovation and research with an extensive knowledge and expertise on innovation systems. Director General for Vinnova for eight years and now Vice Chancellor at Lund university.


Tracey GroseTracey Grose: Examines the green economy, regional innovation assets and collaborative governance structures. Expertise in analytical tools for communicating regional progress in innovation, global linkages, and the intersection of the economy and the environment. Vice President of Research and Strategic Development at Collaborative Economics in Silicon Valley.


Behrang MasoumiBehrang Masoumi: From the Swedish Innovation Think Thank with a desire to change the world through ideas, innovation and communication.


Mu RongpingMu Rongping: One of China's leading scientists whose main area is technology and innovation policy – professor and director-general at the Institute of Policy and Management in Beijing.


Mats LindoffMats Lindoff: Innovation Director, Lund University. One of Sweden's most experienced executives. For six years Chief Technical Officer at Sony Ericsson, now in charge of the Innovation system development at Lund University.


Søren Tegen PedersenSøren Tegen Pedersen: since 2007 deputy director at the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority, administrative authority of the worlds first government sponsered userdriven innovation programme funding projects in both private and public sector.


Thomas FrostbergThomas Frostberg: Co-founder of Rapidus, a celebrated news service focusing on innovation, startups and venture capital. Fellow of the Innovation Journalism Program at Stanford University in 2006, now Senior Business Columnist for Sydsvenska Dagbladet.


Christopher LettlChristopher Lettl: Recognised as one of the world's leading innovation researchers. His work include several areas - from cooperation with LEGO on how to use creative consumers to how to create global development through innovation.


Allan T MalmAllan T Malm: Professor and Dean of School of Economics and Management at Lund University working to promote innovation and more collaboration with industry and society. Has also worked actively with Venture Lab, an incubator for new business ideas.


Pia KinhultPia Kinhult: Deputy Governor Skåne. Responsible for regional development and growth. This includes issues about both enterprising, innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. The issues around infrastructure and Öresund is also on the agenda. Involved in the work for both Max IV and ESSS coming to Sweden and Lund. Chairman for the EU Regional Structurefunds and the Interregional Öresund committee. Former vice chairman for Lund University.


Lars J. JohansenLars J. Johansen: Director and COO of Monday Morning, Scandinavia’s largest independent think tank. Lars is co-initiator of the Innovation Council, founder the Danish task force for social entrepreneurship, board member for the Social Economy Foundation, member of the Danish Government’s advisory panel on entrepreneurship policy and founder of Nordic Climate Solutions, among others. Lars has been named one of the three most influential young Danish business leaders in 2009.


Katarina GraffmanKatarina Graffman: Katarina Graffman is an experienced consumer anthropologist with aPhD in anthropology. She is the CEO and founder of Inculture. Katarina is specialized in consumer-close business- and brand development.


Damien PerisseDamien Perisse: Currently Director for innovation and competitiveness at the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR). Former coordinator of a Regions of Knowledge Project co-funded by the EC about regional research and innovation policies. CPMR is an Association of 160 Regions. Created in 1973, it advocates a balanced territorial development in Europe.


Amar BhidéAmar Bhidé: Leading authority on how innovation and entrepreneurship can create prosperity in a globalized world. Professor at Colombia Business School and called the most brilliant and insightful economic thinker around.
