Follow the Three Minute Thesis Competition! http://www.innovationinmind.se/news/2013/09/follow-the-three-minute-thesis-competition/ http://www.innovationinmind.se/news/2013/09/follow-the-three-minute-thesis-competition/#comments Mon, 16 Sep 2013 17:06:42 +0000 Arne Berge http://www.innovationinmind.se/?p=4754 + Read more]]> The Three Minute Thesis 3MT is an academic competition for doctoral candidates. It takes place in connection to Innovation in Mind.

Lund University will appoint a doctoral candidate who will compete in an international Universitas 21 race (U21). It is a three minute speech to present their research in the most inspiring, educational and captivating manner.

The Three Minute Thesis competition  3MT  challenges doctoral candidates to communicate the significance of their projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.

This is an opportunity for doctoral candidates to develop their research communication skills by explaining their research to a non-specialist audience. For the winner it is also an opportunity for networking and international peer review across the Universitas 21 (U21) network, by win a scholarship.

The competition takes place on Wednesday, September 18 at 18 to 19 in connection with the conference Innovation In Mind. The venue is the concert hall in the AF building 2nd floor. There will be a jury, audience and a moderator – all of which are prepared and aware of their role.

The winner will compete with doctoral candidates from other U21 universities.

Currently 18 st U21 universities announced their intention to participate, including Queensland, Fudan, Chile, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Nottingham Malaysia Campus, Virginia, Auckland, UBC, HKU, Melbourne, UNSW.
More information is available below and through this link http://threeminutethesis.org

Each U21 member will appoint one doctoral candidate to the competition to be judged by an international panel. Each participating member university will hold their own internal 3MT competition to select a local winner who will then be put forward to the U21 virtual final. The local competitions challenge the students to present face-to-face. The winner will record the presentation and a video of the winner will be sent to an international panel consisting of industry and academic professionals. So the final selection will be done by video entries.

Two winners will be appointed in the final U21 competition: a Judge’s Choice, for which the recipient will be awarded a bursary of US$2,500 to contribute to a research focused visit to a U21 member university of their choice. The second winner of the People’s Choice the recipient will be awarded US$300. Members will be invited to vote for their favourite People’s Choice finalist. The winners will be announced on Tuesday 29 October.
